Cozy Games That Respect Your Time

Cozy Games That Respect Your Time

May 14, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

The cozy genre has a dirty secret: a lot of these calming games are quietly built to make you anxious about logging in. Crops wilt, timers tick, streaks break. That's not relaxing — that's a chore with nice music.

Garden of Hours does the opposite. Skip a day and nothing punishes you. The plants wait. That single design choice changes the entire relationship you have with the game.

I've started using this as a litmus test for any cozy title I review. Does it want me to enjoy it, or does it want me to feel guilty? The good ones never make you feel bad for having a life.

If you only try one relaxing game this month, pick one that lets you walk away without consequences. Your evenings will thank you.
